These 12-sided refillable bottles were found throughout Romania and once were used to hold the pressurized carbonated water (seltzer) to add to fruit syrups long before soda became a popular drink. Originally delivered to homes in a wooden crate holding 10 bottles, similar to milk bottles. Some of these green bottles have markings on the bottom, including "Apa Gazoasa," which means "gas water" in Romanian.
